Son Vida is the oldest golf course in Mallorca.
Designed by Fred Hawtree, it was opened by Prince
Rainier of Monaco in 1964. The 18 hole, par 72,
course underwent total renovation during 2001. It is
now often described as the most prestigious golf
course in Mallorca as it is set amongst exclusive and
luxurious properties.
Countless almond, carob, pine and palm trees can
be found around the course which offers wonderful
views of the Bay of Palma and the Sierra de
Tramuntana mountains.
Son Vida is a difficult course with
narrow
holes alternating with wider ones, and slightly
undulating holes with flat ones, making it very
pleasant to play on. That doesn't mean that the
course is an easy one, on the contrary, it is
rather difficult. Especially the landing area of
the balls at the end of hole 2, the beginning of
hole 4, the narrow hole 6 and the ascending
approximation to hole 11 are particularly
challenging. In 1990 and 1994 Severiano
Ballesteros and Barry Lane were the winners of
the
Balearic Islands Open that was held in Son Vida
with great success.
